Design<\/p>\n
This Aaron Drake design was made in direct collaboration with David Sanborn, and influenced by several of Drake’s previous designs. It is also inspired by some of Sanborn’s most beloved vintage mouthpieces. The result is a mouthpiece that helped write the next chapter of the genuine Sanborn sound, and can now help you write your own story. <\/p>\n
Process<\/p>\n
Each piece is handmade. After milling, extensive hand work is done on the blank. The chamber, baffle and liner are hand worked and finished to exacting tolerances. The result is a mouthpiece that offers total consistency with impeccable craftsmanship. <\/p>\n
Specifications<\/p>\n
The Sanborn model incorporates a three-tiered baffle design with a medium Venturi chamber. It is available in three apertures: 6 (.080?), 7 (.085?) and 8 (.090?). All nozzle proportions and baffle contouring are adjusted for each tip opening to ensure total consistency in playing feel. David Sanborn personally plays opening number 8.<\/p>\n
Sound<\/p>\n
The mouthpiece features a very immediate response and precise attack, with just the right amount of resistance to develop rich tonal color and allow complete freedom of expression. It is exceptionally free blowing and allows the player to employ a full range of dynamics, from the low to the high end of the instrument. It is a powerful mouthpiece, with impeccable intonation and a centered sound. The full, rich sound of the Drake Sanborn Signature mouthpiece far exceeds that of other similar mouthpieces.<\/p>\n
Each mouthpiece has a silver-plated satin finish and is engraved with a unique serial number. Limited production. <\/p>\n

About the Drake Quad-Point ligature<\/p>\n
The Drake “Quad Point” ligature is custom designed for David Sanborn’s new mouthpiece to be positioned near the end of the board, Dave’s signature placement. This ligature position allows for full activation of the reed fiber and maximizes resonance and responsiveness. Quad Point refers to 4 points of contact on the reed. Tested and approved by David Sanborn.<\/p>\n
History of David Sanborn’s mouthpiece development.<\/p>\n
In 2013 David invited me to meet after his concert in San Antonio Texas. David expressed his need for a mouthpiece that could replace the mouthpiece he played for many years. From this initial meeting I started making prototype mouthpieces for David to try, and within several months we came up with a design that David liked. Not only did he like it, but it was a mouthpiece that could be his number one piece. In 2014 Dave switched and started playing exclusively with his Drake mouthpiece. <\/p>\n
